Janey, by Charlotte Zolotow, illus. by Ronald Himler
This book is a poem told from the perspective of a young
girl whose best friend has moved away. The images the words paint are often very
familiar images which lend the work a universal appeal. If you can feel the feelings
of emptiness the young girl feels, you will be able to enjoy this story with
your children.

D'Aulaire's Norse Gods and Giants, by Ingri d'Aulaire, illus. by Edgar Parin d'Aulaire
This book, and d'Aulaire's Greek Myths, are
very interesting books to examine. I can remember checking this book out
of my elementary school libarary again and again. I do not read all of the stories
with my children, and I usually modify portions of the stories depending on which
of my children I am reading to. I make this available to my children as a means of
recognizing allusions to this material from other literature.

Airplanes and Trucks and Trains, Fire Engines, Boats and Ships and Building and Wrecking Machines, by George Zaffo, illus. by George Zaffo
I found this book at a used bookstore. It is an incredibly
amazing storehouse of mechanical information about all kind of trucks, trains, airplanes,
..., everything a little boy would want to see and know about heavy machinery! My son
would sit and look at this book hour after hour. If you can find this, it is worth
picking up!
